Lorain County Computer Users Group presents: A Double Feature! AVG Antivirus Presented by Kaye Coller and Podcasting Presented by Sandee Ruth.
AVG Antivirus Many LCCUG members already use AVG Antivirus and others are interested in finding a good way to protect their computer. The program is free to the home user, but that means no technical support. As part of the AVG presentation, Kaye will demonstrate the program and answer questions about how to use it effectively. Some of the features include: Email Scanner - checks your incoming and outgoing email for viruses; Resident Shield - checks for viruses as files are opened, executed, and saved. Prevents you from opening or running an infected file; Virus Vault - where infected files are isolated; Control Center - provides information and allows you to modify settings; Scheduler - allows you to schedule tests and updates. AVG is easy to use - most of the time - and easy to update. Come ask your questions or find out if this is the program for you. Podcasting Sandee will show us what Podcasting is, give examples, and tell how we can get involved. If you've never heard of Podcasting, it's somewhat like Blogging, except with the addition of sound. You can create and broadcast your own program on the Web. If you ever wanted to be a radio personality, have a talk show, or anything similar, now's your chance to find out how. Sandee is a Library associate, Computer Resources, at the Lorain Public Library and also Secretary and Statutory Agent for LCCUG. She is always alert to new features to share with library patrons and LCCUG members. Gould Auditorium - St. Joseph’s Community Center 20th Street & Broadway, Lorain, Ohio Doors Open 6 PM Presentation 7 to 9 PM. Come early to interact with other computer users or get help with a problem. All meetings are FREE and open to the public on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month. Lorain County Computer Users Group presents: Cable & High Speed Internet - Past, Present & Future Presented by David Booth.
David Booth has worked in the cable industry for over 20 years. As a senior engineer, he has survived many company buyouts/mergers because of his engineering and cable expertise and experience with helping cable to grow and incorporate state of the art technology into a system. While he has trained and done presentations for other engineers, cable installers, and politicians, he can speak and explain various aspects of cable in terms that are easy to understand. Tonight, he will cover some cable and Internet history, what is happening now, and what is in store for this cutting edge industry. Here is a great chance to find out how the advances in high speed Internet connections may affect you. Dave is currently working with the Comcast "Headend," which is the brains of the entire cable system, and involves being on call 24 hours a day. He has excellent troubleshooting skills and shares his duties for the west side of Cleveland properties with one other Headend engineer.
